A Luxury renovation & landscape design in Provence
The Vielliard & Francheteau architectural practice applied its expertise in renovating exceptional homes and properties to a project to restore a stone farmhouse near Eygalières, at the foot of the Alpilles mountains. A privileged village at the foot of the Alpilles mountains, Eygalières is very popular with an international clientele seeking the typical atmosphere of Provence.
Renovation of a stone farmhouse in a Provencal garden
Keen to preserve the authenticity of the site, the architects set about renovating the existing stone farmhouse. The aim of this high-end renovation was to respect the traditional architectural codes of the original house, while restoring the qualities expected of a luxurious, high-comfort holiday home.
In particular, the architects consolidated the structure of the old stone building and restored the roof. To achieve optimum energy efficiency, the interior insulation was completely overhauled.
The owners also entrusted Vielliard & Francheteau with the interior design. The result was a contemporary look and feel for the spaces, without detracting from the authenticity of the stone farmhouse.
In the new interior spaces created, the agency’s decorators were keen to enhance the atmosphere of the former bourgeois residence. Period features such as fireplaces, exposed wooden beams and projecting cornices have been preserved. Home automation using today’s best technologies has brought modern comfort to every room.
Our expertise in landscape architecture design
On the grounds of this magnificent property surrounded by greenery, the architects also designed the creation of the garden, reinforcing the Provençal style with species typical of the Eygalières and Alpilles landscape, and reorganized the gate access, as well as the uses of the various terraces intended for outdoor lounging and dining.
The pool area was designed with the idea of moving it away from the farmhouse and masking it with vegetation, to avoid distorting the historic quality of the building, which has been preserved in a natural park. As a result, the pool and its pool-house create an intimate space of their own, surrounded by greenery.
