A contemporary Mediterranean house, perfectly integrated into the surrounding vegetation: this was the brief from Luxembourg clients for their holiday home near Aix-en-Provence, at the foot of Mont Saint-Victoire. To respect the privileged landscaped environment, rich in Provencal species of all sizes, the architects designed an architecture winding through the dense and varied vegetation. The volumes of the house undulate over the land, skirting the slender trees to preserve this protective natural canopy.

Vielliard & Francheteau’s architecture always offers a strong link between architecture and nature, thanks in particular to the use of large glass walls that decompartmentalize the space, creating a unique immersive experience.The very articulation of interior spaces integrates existing nature, as evidenced by the interior architecture of the villa divided by a central patio. The patio brings natural light into the living spaces and preserves the existing vegetation at the heart of the house.
An emblematic luxury villa
The facades of this modern villa blend contemporary raw concrete with stone cladding echoing traditional local architecture. Here, the style of architects Vielliard & Francheteau is recognizable by the characteristic stratum formed by the terrace roof overhanging the facades, which slips gently under the branches of the umbrella pines. The interior spaces take full advantage of the outdoors, thanks to panoramic sliding windows that erase any boundary with the landscape.
Only the floor reminds us of this boundary, from the waxed concrete of the interior to the ipe wood slats of the terrace, which extends down a few steps to the pool area. The garden has been redesigned to enhance this harmonious dialogue between buildings and plants: low stone walls delimit the terraces up to the pool and pool house, and wooden slats reinforce the natural character of the paths.
